SPEECH DELIVERED DURING THE 10TH MATRICULATION CEREMONY OF THE 2019/2020 school term BY THE VICE-CHANCELLOR

I welcome you all, most heartily; to the present august occasion that marks the official entry of each student into higher institutions of learning. it’s significant because it’s a statutory gathering to formally admit deserving and qualified candidates who are fortunate to be offered admission into this institution. Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and therefore the oral screening conducted by the University to further ascertain and strengthen the standard of candidates being admitted to the University especially .

Licensed on 21 December, 2006 because the 30th State University and therefore the 80th overall within the country (for which we also are referred to as “3080”), this University commenced academic activities in September, 2007 and has maintained a gentle academic calendar. an easy testimony to the present is that while many Universities in Nigeria are still battling with the 2015/2016 school term your University is already within the 2016/2017 school term . We indeed desire this trend to continue.

The University as of now has about 44 academic programmes, out of which all the 39 that are mature for accreditation are fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC). Our Postgraduate College also commenced admission of scholars within the 2015/2016 school term .

It may interest you to understand that you simply are the very first set of scholars that i’m admitting into the membership of this unique community (i.e. UNIOSUN) in my capacity because the third substantive Vice-Chancellor of this University. Gladly, you’ve got come at the proper time, and that i challenge you to enlist during this noble vision.

The University has continued to specialise in her pursuit of excellence in teaching, research and repair to society as enshrined in our vision: “To be a centre of excellence providing top quality teaching and learning experiences which can engender the assembly of entrepreneurial graduates capable of impacting on their environment while globally competitive’’ and mission: to make a singular institution committed to pursuit of educational innovation, skill based training and a practice of excellence in teaching, research and community service. 

You need to repeatedly remember that the space between today’s ceremony and convocation ceremony is sort of wide and it’s important that the journey ends successfully. For this to happen, you would like to be regular attending at lectures, completing all of your assignments, shunning deviant behaviours and other vices which will expose you et al. to danger. This University has intolerance for cultism, any sort of hooliganism and corruption. i want to further advise you to point out reference to your colleagues and staff within the University to form your stay fruitful and productive. i’m aware that within the just concluded orientation programme conducted across the campuses within the University, you want to are informed of the co-curricula activities available on our campuses. we’ll strive to enhance on them as time goes by. Please, avail yourself of those opportunities, not only to excel in learning, but possibly to become our sport Ambassadors. Please strive to uphold the ideals of the University.

In spite of dwindling resources, the University has managed to remain afloat to deliver good services to our students. Your role in prompt payment of fees and other charges would assist the University greatly during this regard.

The University has therefore, decided that no students are going to be allowed to write down examinations without full payment of all prescribed fees. we’d like your cooperation during this reference to enable us deliver on our mandate of manufacturing graduates that are globally competitive and may contribute meaningfully to global development. On our part, we assure you of probity, transparency and accountability within the use of your resources.

Be reminded that the oath you’ve got taken today is to be obedient to the Vice-Chancellor, all those in authority, and to be of excellent conduct throughout your stay within the University. Please be warned that a breach of the oath taken today will certainly attract appropriate sanctions. Again, I admonish you to steer beyond cultism, hooliganism and other sorts of social menace.

I pray that the Almighty God will watch all of you, prosper you and cause you to all a source of pride to your families, states, country and humanity. Today’s joy shall be permanent. Amen.

Once again I congratulate all the matriculating students and need you a productive and fruitful stay in Osun State University.
